WOMAN:
What She Has Done With Where She Has Been
By EJ Phillips
The
women you meet in Woman: What She Has Done With Where She Has Been
are people you might run into every day going to the post office.
None have shuttled to the moon or discovered a cure for cancer.
But they've lived fully. They have gone on in spite of twisting
trails and boulder-strewn paths. They have each run a course that
seemed custom designed to shake their confidence and finished strong
triumphant winners. All have a passion for survival and all have
attained their own personal success.

Some women who tell their stories in Woman:
What She Has Done With Where She Has Been may have been frightened
many times and even badly hurt. The book, however, is not about
domestic abuse, divorce, or other stressful situations, although
those conditions may have been the catalyst for each to take charge
of her life and explore a different path. These are stories
of survival against the odds, strength of character, courage in
the face of hard times, trust in God and oneself.
Like the lives they record, the stories are
gritty, down-to-earth, not always pretty. Each woman faced her adversity
without blinking or turning away. Each had the passion and determination
to do what was necessary with no fanfare and with no dramatics.
For example, Mary Allison Clark pulled herself out of a suicidal
clinical depression to nurse her daughter through ovarian cancer.
To cope with her frustrations, Mary began painting. Today, to her
surprise, she's a successful professional artist. Or take the story
of Tina Slavey-Hahn who left home at 14 to live the hippie life.
Tina reconsidered her goals, rebuilt her future and is now an instructor-trainer
who works with AIDS victims.
